Sunshine Coast Lightning strikes new sponsorship deal with local business

Local business Bioweed has announced it is sponsoring Sunshine Coast Lightning with netballer, Laura Scherian, to sport its logo as she hits the court.

Laura is known for her healthy approach to a well-balanced diet and natural lifestyle and Bioweed is a natural gardening solution.

Bioweed Managing Director David Wardle said it was a perfect fit and a great example of how local business can support local sport and local players.

According to Laura, “especially during these times, we want the community to get together. A show of support from other local companies has been great for us.”

Mr Wardle said Bioweed launched its retail business in late 2019 and it was looking for a way to give back.

“A partnership with the Sunshine Coast Lightning Netball team is something we felt very strongly about as the team advocates for healthy living. Playing a sport like netball is a great way to stay fit and overall live a more natural and healthy lifestyle,” Mr Wardle said.

“For the team at Bioweed, it made sense to join forces with another Sunshine Coast local like Laura, who is also passionate about natural alternatives in her day to day life.”

Laura, who plays WA and Centre, signed with Sunshine Coast Lightning in 2017.

The star player also has a Bachelor of Health Science and Naturopathy. Speaking to Netball Scoop in late 2019, she explained her the attraction to this industry and way of life.

“I first chose to go into the field due to its holistic approach to health. I am very passionate about taking preventative measures to stop lifestyle diseases. Of particular interest was how food could be used as medicine. I have made an effort to implement that throughout my life and being a bit more balanced has made a difference as well.”
